Dawson didn't sleep so well in the tent, so he conked out in the car on the drive back to Huntsville.  I think the kids look so sweet when they are sleeping, so I took a quick picture to capture the moment.

Brothers Campout

Brady had to sleep in a tent that he helped setup for a rank advancement for scouts so he and Dawson set up his tent in Gramps's backyard and had a brothe's campout one night.  They had a good time.  They watched a movie on Dawson's phone, ate junk food, and talked and laughed late into the night.

Abilene Zoo

A trip to Abilene is not complete without a visit to the zoo.  We love this little zoo.

Pizza Beach Towels

Aunt Julie gave the boys an awesome gift - pizza beach towels!!  :-)

Lunar Golf

While we were in Abilene, we tried Lunar Golf.  It was fun, and also really handy because it's indoors and it was a very cold, wet Saturday.

Dawson & Brady have a job.  They are dog walkers to the adorable Chester.

Buescher State Park

We originally planned to camp at Buescher, but an electrical issue with the RV changed our plans.  So we turned our camping trip into a long day trip.  We visited 2 state parks (Lockhart & Buescher) and made a pit-stop at Buc-ee's, which is always fun.

Playing at the playground at Buescher.

Brady climbing the slide.

Trying to out-height each other.  Randy still has the advantage, but not for much longer.

Ready to hike!

A long, pretty hike.

This scenic overlook was a good place to stop and have a snack while on our hike.

Brady at the end of our 5 mile hike - his first hike in pursuit of the Hiking Merit Badge. Still to come are three 10-mile hikes, a 15-mile hike, and a 20-mile hike.

As part of some Boy Scout rank requirements, Brady had to build and light a fire, cook over the fire, and then safely put out the fire. The other Scouts, Randy and Dawson, were giving him advice and encouragement.

Lighting the campfire.

Brady decided to cook burgers for our supper.  He made the patties at home, then seasoned them at the campground before putting them over the fire.

It's burger flipping time!

So fun!  Roasting Peeps for s'mores.

Scrumptious s'mores made with homemade cookies, Reeses, and Peeps.

Brady's traditional s'mores.

Putting out the fire before heading home.

Lokhart State Park

While we were in the neighborhood, we made a quick trip to Lockhart State Park.  It was the FIFTIETH (!!!) Texas State Park that we've visited. :-)

Lockhart is a small, quaint state park. We checked out the old CCC buildings and went on a short 1/2 mile hike along the creek.

Homeschool Basketball Tournament

Dawson and the Huntsville Mavericks attended the Homeschool Regional Basketball Tournament in Fort Worth.  It was incredible to see so many athletic homeschool kids out there playing basketball.  (Who knew this competitive, sporty subculture of homeschoolers existed?)

In the 14U division (the team Dawson was on), the Mavericks placed 6th in Division 2 (which included 16 teams) and 18th overall (including all 46 of the 14U teams).  The younger 12U team placed 6th out of 22 teams.  So overall, both teams did incredibly well.  But the best part of the tournament was getting to spend time with so many sweet homeschool families.  We all stayed at the same hotel so the boys spent time together at the pool, playing cards in the lobby, and hanging out in each other's rooms.  We had a great time and are looking forward to going again next year.
